Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas

I have joined Lori Holt's quilt along on Instagram.  
I'm having so much fun stitching these! 
I've had friends that follow my Instagram ask about these cute little blocks so I thought I would share them here.

She is using her book Quilty Fun book for the block construction with added border measurements on IG.  

I am using all scraps and stash fabric which makes this project even more fun!

I ordered my book a while ago but 
I noticed the other day that Joann's now sells it.  

My candy cottage with a peppermint wreath!

A cup of hot cocoa.  I live on hot cocoa in the winter!

Warm woolly mittens. I wish I had a real pair of these!

There are also bonus blocks with complete tutorials on IG.  This tree is a free block. It would be so sweet as a table runner or place mat. 

This sweet Gingerbread man is also a free block.  I have to say this little Mr. Cookie had the tiniest blocks I've ever pieced, but it came together easily.  Wouldn't he be cute with a bunch of cookie friends in a wall hanging.

WIP...Scrappy Trip Around the World...

Work In Progress...

The top is done for my Scrappy Trip Around the World!

My sweet little boys were helping with this photo shoot. 

They are such sports standing on chairs holding a quilt on this cold windy spring day! 

 See their cute little shoes sticking out.

 They said it was like holding a kite. 

 Thanks boys!

 This was made completely with scraps from my stash. 

 It has a little bit of everything from floral to geometric prints.

I added a border which made it a good lap size. 

I made 16 scrappy squares added 2 1/2 inch strips all around. 

Then a scrappy strip of leftover squares and finally 4 1/2 inch white border to the top and bottom.

Finished top is 52x64. 

I think I have enough left over strips for the binding. 

This was an interesting experience.  
I didn't realize I had so much yellow and green in my stash 
and lots of tiny florals.  
I also had very few purples, blues, oranges and reds.


 I think I have some stash building to do! ;0)

WIP...Scrappy Trip Around the World

Scrappy Trip Around the World  

I have admired all the pretty Scrappy Trips on blogs and on Pinterest.

This fall I cleaned out and organized all my scraps and have been looking for a project to make with them.

Mine are truly scraps that I have had for years
 and just didn't fit in any other project.  

It's so exciting to see how the different blocks come together!  

Even the uglies look good in this quilt.  

Please excuse the threads. It has been so dark this past week, I had to grab and shot before the sun disappeared!

 I am only using scraps from my stash and trying to get the darkest color to run down the center of each block. 

To speed up the process a little I cut the strips 2 1/2 inches by the length of the scrap.  Most scraps are less than a fat quarter.  Then stitched them together and sub cut them.  I am left with 2 1/2 inch squares to use in another scrappy project.

A Quilt for Grandma...

I love scrappy quilts.

I especially love getting scrap fabrics from family. 

The colors and textures of the fabric remind me of that person they even smell like their homes.

 

I was thrilled when my Mother in law called and said that she was cleaning out her sewing room and asked if I wanted some scraps. 

 

Yes! Yes! Yes! 

I was so excited! 

 When I pulled out the scraps I was amazed at how well they all went together. 

 

They were all lovely reds, greens, tans, golds, and creams.

A few years ago she gave me red quilt binding that matched the fabrics perfectly. 

I decided to make a Square Dance Quilt for her Birthday. 

It has been so much fun to work on. I machine quilted in the ditch and in the boarders then hand stitched with pearl cotton in the blocks. 

My kids said the quilt looks like Grandma's house.
